First off, I really try to understand every opinion. The pastor said that she doesn't care what her congregation believes, as long as they learn to love. I like a message of love. She said that Christianity is about kindness and love, not about your belief (or disbelief) in Jesus, or any biblical principal for that matter. She goes on to say that she doesn't believe in, or agree with some parts of the bible. (If you don't see eye to eye with the bible then why call yourself a Christian?) I am not sure how long they have had the current pastor. If you are an aging hippie that wants some "religion", or a young, hipster looking for a church that preaches what you would like to hear, not what you probably need to hear, then this may be for you. It is a small church that sings hymns and occasionally chants some stuff, all in all the service is fairly short. It is not at all a mainstream Christian Church. great church service I had two wonderful worship experiences at Aldersgate while visiting Juneau. I found a spirited and loving congregation with a pastor whose sermons are well-rooted in scripture, true to the Christian tradition, very understandable, and relating to the human experience. They have a very active mission program and, as I understand it, are working on bolstering their adult Christian education ministry. I was pleased to see quite of number of young families as well as more "mature" folks there. As Juneau is quite often a community whose population is in flux, the Aldersgate congregation is very adept at warmly welcoming newcomers and lovingly sending forth those who are moving to other climes. Aldersgate is well worth your Sunday mornings.
