We really enjoyed flying over the Juneau icefield and landing on Herbert Glacier. (I believe that was the name of the glacier.) The staff at Coastal were very respectful through the entire process. We were picked up at the Mount Roberts tramway, which was very close to our dock. Ben, our pilot did a fine job, smooth and steady taking off and landing. We will definitely use this company again if we ever return to Juneau. My friend and I booked this excursion and were looking forward to the experience. This excursion is expensive and was just under $1000. Upon being placed in order to board the helicopter, my friend asked why she was placed at the back of the helicopter and in the middle while I had a front view and another girl. We were told due to weight distribution. The drawback is that the person in the back middle has no windows to look out as oppose to the to big men beside her and was not able to take pictures or see the view both coming and returning. The dog sled ride was disappointing in the sense that there were 3 couples and two of the couples were able to sit comfortably and have someone from the excursion ride their sleds, while my friend and I were put in the back on a small sled that was attached by a long rope to the sled in front of us. My friend had to stand and steer the sled and I had to try to stop the poles from the path hitting us as the small dog sled was swaying around. It took the joy out of the excursion. You would think they would have switched the couples to take turns but no such luck nor concern to the company. Too expensive for what they offer. Unbelievable, exciting awesome adventure. Shuttle available from Juneau Port. Book as excursions or independently. I highly recommend it. I heard this is the only company that operated all year round, so great fleet and experienced crew. Coastal cancelled our reservations due to wind. While I appreciate the fact that safety comes first, I don't appreciate that they contacted me at 11:06 when our pick up was 11:15. I received the call as I was walking off the ship and then was met by the representative in the parking lot. Our ship was in port at 8am and they could have called sooner. Had they called sooner we could have booked another excursions. Instead we took a cab to Mendenhall glacier which we saw 3 years ago. And while at the glacier we watched helicopter after helicopter go overhead. Again, safety first but a phone call sooner would have made for a better experience. Loved our tour! Worth the money. Our pilot, Shane was wonderful. Highly recommend
