For the last couple years Abby's Kitchen has catered for our business meetings in Juneau. I heard many compliments on how good the food was and the service was great! I will start out by saying that the day of our wedding, the catering was smooth and the food was excellent. For that, I am giving them an extra star on their review. Dealing with Abby's Kitchen was by far the most difficult and stressful part of our wedding planning experience. From the start they were very poor at communication, requiring numerous unanswered e-mails, phone calls, messages, and visits to their office in order to get somebody to call us back. I felt I was a very low maintenance bride, but when it takes weeks to get a quote, and that quote finally shows up incomplete with the incorrect number of guests (by A LOT), incorrect food choices, and the incorrect names on the contract, I start to get upset. The day before the wedding, Abby's had still not gotten back to us to confirm a final head count or event time (which was also incorrect on the contract). We waited over three hours for a promised call-back and eventually my fiancée had to go into the office (after I had already physically been there twice) and wait until somebody came out to talk to him. We did not feel like a priority contract for them at any point. I would also like to point out that the one 5-star review on Google for Abby's Kitchen came from ABBYS KITCHEN AND CATERING. EDIT 1: After posting this review, a second 5-star review was posted by Shelby Jeffries, who is an employee of Abby's Kitchen. This business is obviously padding their reviews, which I feel is highly unethical and discredits the honest reviews of their service. I have since lowered my score of their business from 3 to 2. Through many sources I heard that Abby's was the best caterer in Juneau, so I decided to reach out to them in late September 2015 about catering my holiday party at the JAHC on December 12. Abby's provided me with a holiday menu with which to choose the food I wanted, but prices were not included on the documentation. I made my selections and informed Abby's of my choices and gave a rough estimate of the number of guests to be served (~50). Being on a budget I asked that they provide a price quote for the catering. This quote was not provided until 3 weeks prior to our event, and it was outside of our budget. Without knowing the cost per menu selection, I had to guess which items needed to be removed from the menu to bring the cost down to manageable levels. I provided Abby's with the changes and did not receive the updated quote until December 7th... 5 days prior to the event. At this point, if the price was still outside of our budget our party would have been ruined. Lucky for us the new price was agreeable and the party was saved. I find it hard to believe an established catering business takes nearly 7 weeks to figure a price for a a small event such as mine. A quicker turnaround is definitely needed. At the event though, Abby's shined. The food was outstanding and the service and staff were very friendly and nice. I received so many compliments on the food and the guests were very happy. Long story short: great food, nice staff, but business practices need refining.
