Not sure if the girl manning the shop was in a bad mood, but she was not very friendly and seemed quite put out to have to serve us. The gear was fine, location is great if you want to kayak Auke Bay, just walk down the ramp and away you go. They provided a very non-chalant safety review, handed you your gear and basically said, "Don't capsize it, you will be in trouble." She charged us for a full day rental without ever mentioning that if we had waited a half hour, it would have only been a half day rental. We did have a good time - hung fairly close to the east coast because it was windy and rainy, but we got to see a sea lion several times, a whale, and an eagle. we kayaked out to a little island and had some snacks, stretched our legs, etc, and then went back. This is one of the few places you can rent a kayak without having to take a guide, and that I know of, the only place to rent if you do not have a car. We were able to take the public bus to their location with ease. i have no expanses i a just doing a math project but i do like alaska We had a great experience with the rental shop. They made sure they were open when we came late in the season. They gave us a safety presentation to our level of experience, and then afterwards when I left my camera in their life jacket they mailed it back to me!
