I've been to Juneau a few times now and always go out with Juneau Tours for whale watching. The boat size and layout are perfect for whale watching, but the staff is what makes it extraordinary! I've had Emily as our guide a few times and she is perfect with a ton of information with having lived around Alaska all of her life! Liz was super awesome and being born and raised in Juneau she shared her knowledge of Alaska as well...and Capt. Steve rounded out the perfect outing. I'll be coming back next year and will definitely be booking with Juneau Tours! Our family had a great whale watching experience. Our captain, Brenden was excited to give us a great tour. He kept maneuvering our boat to get better views of the whales. Our naturalist, Jon, was there to educate us on the species. We saw many humpback whales and were able to see orcas as well. I was hesitant to book outside of the cruise ship excursions, but everything was great. It was professional and personal. It was a smaller boat and there were about 20-25 passengers which gave us a more personalized experience. Juneau Whale Watch is also a family owed business, always good to support local! We found the tour through our hotel concierge, and thankfully the trip lived up to her enthusiastic endorsement. The guides, Jacob and Jordan were excellent. Jacob's knowledge of whales was extensive (he's studying marine biology at university) and he had a wonderful sense of humour as a bonus. We saw the unique and extraordinary "bubble net" where the whales all jump out of the water at the same time. Can't ask for more than that! What better way to experience Juneau than with a city tour and whale watching trip? Sandy and Brandon were excellent, fun, and informative tour guides for whale watching. They got us out to open water quickly so we could spend the most time possible enjoying the sights and sounds of whale watching. Within a few minutes, we were stunned by the flukes of a large female humpback whale, Flame. We were fortunate enough to track the 15 minute breaths for an hour or so, and see 2-3 more whales. Every 5-10 minutes, someone on board would excitedly "see a spout, shout it out, or see a blow, let us know". It felt like each member of the tour was an active part of the experience making the sightseeing more rewarding for every involved. We had a really good time whale watching today and taking a tour of the Mendenhall glacier. There was a lot to do and see. Very convenient. I have been on a number of whale watching tours and this was the best. Not just because of the beauty of the Bay but also thanks to the friendly and knowledgable crew. We saw multiple humpbacks and harbor seals and had a great time on this wonderful tour.
