After flying by seaplane over 5 breathtaking glaciers (with my wife as co-pilot), we landed on the Taku River at the rustic Taku lodge. We had some drinks and a delicious ginger cookie and then took off on a guided walk through the woods with the Taku Glacier as a backdrop prior to the lunch bell. We had amazing fresh caught Salmon for lunch and were even treated to the appearance of a black bear that cleaned the grill ash for any leftovers. It was an absolutely magical experience. This was the best shore excursion we had experienced on our cruise to Alaska. Awesome, fun, exciting, scary plane ride to and from Taku Lodge. Our pilot was great and we all felt comfortable with him. Once at the lodge we were greeted by the friendly young folks who live there and take care of the place. The meal was excellent and the nature walk, tho short, was picturesque and illuminating. My family and friends (8 of us) loved this place. One of the owners decades ago was Mary Joyce, an adventurous woman. I bought her bio written by her niece, on Amazon and would love to return to Taku to learn even more about the country and this amazing woman. Highly recommended shore excursion. THE BEST....I didn't want to leave ! The food was amazing the scenery...couldn't get enough of it! The flight was absolutely hands down ...just the best...and I HATE to fly....can't wait to do it again. Awesome airplane ride over 5 glaciers on the iconic De Havilland Otter. Very skilled staff, excellent pilots. Highly recommended! Mke and Al were excellent pilots and guides. Food was excellent at Taku Glacier Lodge
